Biraq has long been renowned throughout the former Yugoslavia for its production of table grapes. The vineyard lies where north-eastern and south-western air currents converge, the latter influenced by the nearby Drini i Bardhë river valley. This constant natural ventilation ensures healthy, well-formed bunches while preserving the site’s original agricultural vocation, which remains primarily dedicated to table grapes.
Biraqë is a village in the municipality of Therandë, recognized for its fertile land and vineyard-covered surroundings. Viticulture is an integral part of village life, shaping the landscape and local agricultural traditions. With vineyards extending across the fields and a community closely connected to the land, Biraqë reflects the wine-growing heritage and steady rural rhythm characteristic of the Therandë region.
Winemaking in Kosovo’s Theranda Valley traces its roots back to 1953, with a tradition steeped in passion, expertise, and generations of craftsmanship. Today, the vineyards and facilities continue to flourish, carrying forward a rich legacy of exceptional winemaking. Established in 2014 after the privatization of the local cooperative, Theranda Winery emerged as the custodian of its vineyards, facilities, and a rich legacy of winemaking know-how cultivated over generations.
